BGMEA and IBC Discuss Challenges and Solutions for RMG Sector

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has sought the cooperation of the IndustriALL Bangladesh Council (IBC) leaders to ensure a stable labor environment in the garment sector amid ongoing challenges.

During a meeting on August 31, 2024, at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, the BGMEA president, Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, emphasized the need for collaboration to address recent disruptions in the industry. The meeting was attended by BGMEA officials and IBC representatives, including general secretary Shahidullah Badal and various federation leaders. Also present were representatives from law enforcement agencies.

The garment industry has been facing significant challenges, including export-import disruptions and financial difficulties. The BGMEA requested the IBC leaders’ support to prevent labor unrest and road blockades, which could further impact the industry and the general public. The meeting emphasized a tripartite approach to resolving internal factory problems.

The BGMEA president called for collective cooperation to address these issues, stating, “If there is any problem somewhere, we will have to work together.” Colonel Mohiuddin, from the law enforcement agencies, noted that while demands may arise, they should be addressed collaboratively.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous agreement that all parties involved would work together to resolve disputes between owners and workers through discussion, thereby maintaining law and order in the garment industry.
